BREMERTON, Wash. – Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) were awarded first place in a Navy Region Northwest Ultimate Frisbee League Championship Tournament Sept. 6.

The tournament consisted of 13 teams and used a two-loss elimination system.
Stennis’ team finished the tournament with six wins and one loss.

“We knew it was going to be rough,” said Electronics Technician 2nd Class Michael Hudson, from Bradley, Ill. “We were scheduled to play the top two teams in the league.”

Stennis’s team consists of 15 players: two from the ship’s Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, four from Air Department and nine from Combat Systems Department.

After the win, the trophy was presented for display to Stennis’ commanding officer, Capt. Michael Wettlaufer.

Stennis is currently undergoing a Docking Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) maintenance period at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
