BREMERTON, Wash. – Ashore or afloat, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) provides Sailors and their families with numerous activities at a great price.
With limited time before deployment, USS John C. Stennis’ (CVN 74) MWR is going all-out for the holidays and delivering opportunities at a huge discount.
“MWR is something we do for the crew,” said Chief Operations Specialist Kellen Mckinney-Forbes, MWR fun chief and command climate specialist, from Woodbridge, Va. “It’s our job to make sure the morale is high and Sailors are happy.”
Lt. Robert Dodge, Stennis’ sheriff, from San Jose, Calif., was an MWR beneficiary two years ago, winning a pair of tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl.
“I’m definitely looking forward to this year’s holiday party,” said Dodge. “I wasn’t sure what to expect at the 2013 party but I’m sure this year’s will be better with the crazy amounts food and activities they have going on.”
MWR is hosting a holiday party December 10th at 1730 in Bangor Plaza for the crew and their families. The party will feature dueling pianos, a hip-hop band, a large selection of food, cigar bar and numerous door prizes.
Sailors are able to pick up tickets to the holiday party at the MWR window. The prices are as follows: E1-E3 $20, E4-E5 $25, E6 $30, E7-O3 $40, O4-O5 $45, O6 and above $70.
“We have it all,” said Mckinney-Forbes, “sports tickets, plane tickets, every electronic item you could think of, it’s there.”
This year’s top prizes include gaming consoles, laptops, College Football Playoff tickets, TVs, tickets for loved ones to meet their Sailor in different ports on deployment and much more.
Personnel who are on duty and unable to attend the event are still eligible to win prizes if their number is called during the raffle, the prize will be set aside and delivered.
MWR is selling discounted tickets for several events to include the holiday party, Nutcracker, Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable World Tour, Muse: Drones World Tour and the Washington Federal Battle in Seattle.
